Oakleaf Papaya is a small, deciduous, fast growing tree reaching 10-15 ft in height. It is one of the most cold hardy and drought tolerant papayas we grow and it has a very similar flavor to a tropical papaya. The fruit ripens in early winter. The fruit are small, about the size of a cheetoh and can be eaten skin and all. A mature tree can produce many hundreds of fruits in a season.
The plants are either male or female, and each MAY contain 2 papayas. We suggest purchasing at least 2-4 pots, in the hopes of having both a male and female. A great food forest addition and very resilient.
