Dignified Land-based Work

Fifty full-time staff are at Planting Justice. We’re not your typical nonprofit hires; many of us didn’t go to college, didn’t have resumes that could get us hired, and many of us have been previously incarcerated. Our jobs offer a combination of dignified land-based work with living wages, full benefits, a beautiful work environment, and a community that’s like family. Actually, for some of us, our co-workers are our family.

Addressing Barriers to Employment

People who have been impacted by food and economic injustice often have barriers to employment, are discriminated against, and yet also have valuable skillsets not typically recognized as “job experience.” We hire people locally and provide full health benefits for workers and their children along with a host of supportive services so that people can stay in Oakland and provide for their families.

    • Planting Justice opened doors for me I never thought possible. In this environment, you’re not a number, you’re a person. You get encouraged to be in leadership positions, to introduce new things to the program. You have a lot of room to grow.
