Native American filbert grows over a wide range from Alaska to Newfoundland and south through Oklahoma and Georgia. Beautiful, lush multistemmed large bush/small tree grows 3 to 10 feet tall. Produces delicious nuts that are grown commercially, as well as relished by many types of wildlife. Also an important browse plant for deer, moose and rabbits. Makes a great food producing hedge with its showy spring catkins and soft green summer foliage turning orange, red and purple in the fall. Very hardy down to minus 40 degrees, zones 3-8.
