Another classic edible ornamental that is easy to grow and productive of food and flower. Known as the Tawny daylily it has beautiful flowes that are striped with salmon, gold and orange hues. The tubers, leaves, flowers and flower pods of this plant are all edible and cooked in many ways. The flower buds sauteed in butter are said to very gourmet and the tubers when young and white like jicama raw, and when yellow and mature are like fingerling potatoes only sweeter. Native to Eurasia the flower buds are highly esteemed and sold in markets in China. Very easy to grow in sun or part shade they can be invasive, but with regular dinner time harvesting can be easily controlled. Hardy down to at least zone 4.
