Beautiful evergreen drought resistant bushes are used for food, medicine, soap and fibre. Natives ate the fruit, flowers and seedpods and used the crushed roots to make an excellent shampoo, as well as many medicinal uses. The soft core of the flower stalks were steamed and eaten like asparagus. The long narrow leaves are made into baskets, rope, mats, brushes, etc. Also known as Soapweed, Beargrass and Great Plains Yucca. Super tough plants can grow in marginal soil and have few if any insect or disease problems. Can take full sun to light shade. Beautiful creamy-white flower stalks up to 5 feet tall. Hardy zones 4-10.
