Gillet Chestnut (Castanea sp.) Very large (12 to the pound), excellent flavored nuts peel very easily. A C. crenata hybrid named after the famed fruit and nut breeder Felix Gillet, who pioneered the growing of many species of fruiting plants on his Sierra foothill farm in the late 1880's. A mid to late ripening nut, it is considered to be one of the best for both commercial and home use.
