The Westerveld Medlar is a Dutch variety. This medlar is a semi-dwarf and has a somewhat weeping habit. The Westerveld is also hardy and disease resistant. They often do best in a warm, sheltered position in full sun or partial shade. This Medlar is known for its unusual form, petite with an irregular, flat-topped crown ensures this cultivar offers decorative value even outside the plant’s active months. In the spring, elongated to obovate leaves emerge, fresh green, finely serrated and with soft hairs over their surface. In early summer, striking white singular flowers are produced, and when autumn rolls around its leaves turn an attractive leathery golden orange. The Westerveld can grow up to 8-12 feet. it is a self-fertile tree. The Medlar thrives in deep, fertile well drained soil but it tolerates all soils. Winter pruning is best recommended for this variety.
