Developed at UC Davis as a cross between Kikusui and Tsu Li varieties. Patented variety (USPP6076P) forming a vigorous, upright to slightly spreading tree reaching 10-12 feet. More vigorous growth than other Asian pears. Blooms in early April, late in the Japanese flowering season.

Very large, round-oblate to pyriform (pear-shaped) fruit with light greenish-yellow russeted skin and large lenticels. Firm, crisp, white flesh that is sweet and aromatic with cinnamon spice flavor and faint tartness (over 13% soluble solids). Ripens late September to early October. Exceptional storage life of 5-6 months at 32°F while maintaining flavor and firmness. Highly productive (50+ lbs). Requires cross-pollination with another Asian pear or early European variety.

Originated at University of California, Davis experimental orchard near Winters, California. Name combines "Shin" (new in Japanese) and "Li" (pear in Chinese). Patented and introduced commercially as a superior hybrid combining Chinese and Japanese pear characteristics. Noted for fire blight resistance. Now grown in California and available through specialty nurseries. Pollinate with Dasui Li or other Asian pears for best crops.
