Chinese variety (Ziziphus jujuba). Productive tree with large narrow fruit. Partially self-fertile, benefits from cross-pollination. Name derived from direct translation of traditional Chinese name, speculated to reference fruit's sweetness attracting ants.

Large elongated oval to cylindrical chocolate-brown fruit (3-5 cm diameter). Very sweet with high sugar content, mild apple flavor with subtle tangy notes. Crisp airy flesh, snap-like quality. Stays crisp longer than most varieties, valuable for fresh markets. Early to mid-season ripening. Good for fresh eating and drying.

Native to China, introduced to United States late 20th century. Rare specialty home garden variety shared among jujube enthusiasts.
