This is a perennial tree crop that needs at least 8 months of warm weather per year and does not do well with cold climates. The leaves and the roots are edible, though there is certain culinary preparation needed to make them edible. Cassava is a staple crop throughout tropical regions. Cassava is usually propagated by cutting and will grow into a small tree. USDA hardiness is 8-11, though it will die back to the ground. We suggest 9-11 or keeping it a large pot.
