Chestnut Crabapple (Malus domestica) was first introduced in 1946 and produces a larger crabapple that is ~2" in diameter and has a sweetish, nutty flavor and crisp texture. Chestnut crabapple trees covers themselves with large, aromatic, white flowers in spring (making this a great pollinator for other apple trees!) that turn into apples in the late summer to fall every year. They can handle a cold winter, and have been used for desserts, cider, pickling, applesauce, and ornamental or edible landscaping. Our Chestnut Crabapple trees are certified organic.

pollination requirements
the Chestnut Crabapple Tree is a pollinator and doesn't require another pollinator. However, some recommend planting at least two different varieties of apple or crabapple trees within close proximity for pollination.
propagation
Crab apple trees can be propagated by taking softwood cuttings in late spring or early summer, after the flowers have fallen.
site and soil
Chestnut crabapple trees grow best in well-drained soil with a pH of 5.8–7 and adequate nutrients. They prefer full sun and rich, moist soil, but can tolerate many soil types. Heavy clay doesn't tolerate well.
