Beautiful tree native to Eastern North America from southern Ontario to northern Florida, it can grow up to 130 feet tall on fertile bottomlands. Produces delicious and nutricious rich flavored nuts in 6 to 8 years, and its wood is highly valued for many types of woodworking. Adaptable to many areas of the country it has been widely planted for its nuts, ornamental beauty and timber. The state tree of Missouri, it is highly regarded for forest farming applications throughout most of the country. Hardy zones 4-9.
