Northern highbush released 1928. One of earliest successful blueberry cultivar releases. Represented more than 25% of Michigan blueberry acreage until recent years. Historic foundation variety. Moderately vigorous with good structure. Tolerates wide range of soil types. Similar background to Rubel.

Medium-size, dark blue, rich blue berries that are very sweet. Good quality but small picking scar makes it mainly for processing market. Favorite for baked goods. Displays orange flame fall foliage.

Released 1928, drove first major expansion of blueberry industry. Heavy, reliable producer. One of the three parents (with Stanley and Pioneer) used with Berkeley to create Bluecrop. Mid to late-season variety. Small, soft berries limit fresh market appeal but excellent for processing and home use. Has experienced some winter kill in recent years in vulnerable sites but bounces back.
