Beautiful quick growing leguminous tree is native from South Dakota to New Orleans and Texas, and east to western Massachusetts. Can grow up to 60 to 100 feet tall and has a hard wood that polishes well. Fragrant cream colored flowers are followed by large pods that are edible and nutritious, high in both carbohydrates and proteins. Excellent as a livestock feed, it can replace more energy intensive and erosion producing annual grains. Hardy zones 3-9.
