Native to Japan and growing 60+ feet tall with very large lush foliage and large clusters of up to 10 nuts that have a very good flavor. Very ornamental tree it is closely related to our North American native Butternut, which it naturally crosses with. It has better resistance to the fungal canker disease that Butternut is susceptible to and it or its hybrids are often planted as a replacement for it. Husks make a beautiful yellow dye and the wood is light and beautiful for woodworking. Hardy zones 5-8.
