5 Loveage plants
A lovely plant in the Apiaceae family (family of carrots, dill, parsley, fennel, etc.), this celery-like herb has been used both culinarily and medicinally for centuries! Lovage can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 3-9, and is an herbaceous perennial that dies back in the winter. Plants can grow up to 7 feet tall and boast lovely green foliage and bright yellow flowers with a pleasant aroma. Not to be confused with it close relative Celery, lovage leaves are a herb that tastes like a stronger version of celery with anise undertones. Lovage seeds are a spice used in cooking and even given the name of celery salt, just to make it more confusing! The root of lovage is a vegetable and will be a great ingredient in a gentle herb stew.
