Rosa rubiginosa

Sweet Briar rose (AKA Eglantine Rose) is native to Europe. This cherished rose was included in works by Chaucer and Shakespeare. This shrub rose is dense and prickly, growing up to 10 feet tall and wide, and makes for a good border. The flower has five pink petals with a white base and yellow stamens. Its flowers and leaves have a scent of apples, especially after the rain. Large rose hips turn orange in the fall, and can be used in teas.
