Brent Walker began his journey with Planting Justice in January 2024. The organization caught his attention through a conversation with its founders, who expressed their desire to use their passion for growing food as a catalyst for change in the world. Brent’s connection to gardening and the outdoors was nurtured during his time spent in a farming community with his grandmother, a sustenance farmer who embodied the principles of permaculture long before the term became popular. He continues to enjoy being outdoors as much as possible, often seen with his children riding bikes, playing sports, swimming, camping, and barbecuing. Planting Justice provides opportunities for a diverse range of individuals from various backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, skills, and abilities to unite under a common purpose—to work for change in themselves and in the real-life conditions they face daily.
I have seen myself in the best, best headspace in my life. I’m not drinking no more. I’m eating healthier. It took me to come here, to be here, to really learn to love myself again.
