Burbank Spineless Prickly Pear

Said to be one of Luther Burbanks major plant breeding successes, it was breed primarily as a thornless forage type cactus for cattle forgage in the arid southwest. Long popular in gardens for its very large thornless pads and dramatic upright form growing up to 8 feet tall. Showy yellow bloom is said to ripen into very sweet and tasty medium sized purple fruit. The pads are good for making nopales. Hardy for us in zone 8b.
