Desert Delight Prickly Pear

Very heavy producer of sweet red-pink fruits. Showy orange-red flowers and large low thorn pads on a sturdy plant that is said to have excellent cold hardiness. This Opuntia Ficus- indica variety was collected by Opuntia breeder Peter Felker from a farmer in Saltillo, Mexico. We obtained this selection from the National Arid Land Plant Genetic Resource Unit (NALPGRU) in Parlier, CA. Special thanks to Gabriela Romano who shared much information from evaluations done there to determine the best of the many varieties held there. Hardy zones 8-11.
