Native tree of Australia it is spread widely across the continent, especially around river bottoms and flood plains. Widely grown as a plantation tree in many parts of the world it grows to 200 feet in height with a trunk several feet in diameter and has beautiful red wood that is popular for carving and furniture, and is also widely used as firewood. In Brazil it is made into fine charcoal for iron and steel production. Fast growing tree makes a deep shade making it very popular in high heat areas for the cooling relief it gives. Makes an excellent honey plant and is widely utilized by beekeepers in areas where it grows. Hardy zones 8-11.
