Developed at North Carolina Agriculture Research Station in Raleigh. Northern highbush blueberry cultivar reaching 5-6 feet at maturity. Very upright growth habit with strong vigor. Resistant to stem blight disease (Botryosphaeria dothidea). Ripens approximately 7 days later than 'Legacy', making it a late-season variety. Hardy zones 5-8.

Medium to large berries with attractive appearance and distinct flavor featuring high sugar content and mild acidity reminiscent of "true blueberry" flavor. Firm berries with excellent fresh eating quality and long shelf life in storage. Resistant to anthracnose fruit rot.

Originated from University of North Carolina breeding program, Arlen was developed for late-season production with superior stem blight resistance. It has proven particularly well-adapted to California and Pacific Northwest growing conditions and is suitable for both hand and mechanical harvesting for fresh markets.
