Compact multi-stemmed deciduous shrub, more compact than species. Dark glossy green leaves all season turning bright red and purple in fall. Fragrant white flowers May. Developed University of British Columbia 1996. Missouri Botanical Garden Plant of Merit.

Clusters of large edible dark purple-black berries persist through season. Ripens September, yield 10+ lbs. Self-fertile. Berries eaten fresh or used for baking, jams, juice, wine. High antioxidant content. Combines large fruit of selected varieties with incredible ornamental appeal.

University of British Columbia introduction 1996. More compact habit improvement over species. Named Plant of Merit by Missouri Botanical Garden for ease of growth, disease resistance, outstanding ornamental value. Not well suited for commercial fruit production, selected for ornamental traits.
