Maru Persimmon

Maru is a Japanese pollination-variant persimmon variety that produces medium-sized, round fruit with brilliant orange-red glossy skin. Trees are self-fruitful, producing both male and female flowers, with semi-erect growth habit and reliable production once established.

Medium fruit (2-3 inches diameter) with distinctive dark cinnamon-colored flesh when cross-pollinated and seeded. The flesh is exceptionally sweet, juicy, and richly flavored with subtle spicy notes. When pollinated, fruits contain 6-8 seeds; unpollinated fruits may be seedless but lack the characteristic brown flesh.

Known as "Chocolate Persimmon" or "Cinnamon Persimmon" in Western markets due to dark brown flesh when pollinated. Part of a group of Japanese persimmons prized for their goma (brown) flesh characteristic, considered highly sought-after pollination-variant types.
