This perennial bunching onion is also knows as Lasona, and is the tropical cousin of the I'Itoi Bunching Onion with a larger bulb and deeper purple hue.  This variety is from the Philippines and used as a staple flavoring both as a green onion and a shallot like onion bulb.  These perennial bunching onions can grow in hot and humid conditions, which makes them unique. They show more cold tolerance and larger bulbs than the Akakai Onion.  They often will go dormant during the hottest summer months and then produce the rest of the year.  In our trials this was easiest, largest, and most productive of all our perennial bunching onions. The trial was in Yolo County, Ca and we are continuing to test them in Oakland, Ca.
