Cyphomandra betacea

A great open pollinated selection we grew from seed we got from the Santa Cruz Fruit Growers in Watsonville.  Big red fruit with the shoulders and the tips of the fruit fading into orange.  One of the most beautiful tamarillo fruits we fruits we have seen.  This perennial egg-sized fruit makes for good eating, and is typically made into jams etc or made into a savory sauce.  Easily grown from seed (also cuttings possible but not easy), it prefers a frost free environment (or protection from frost).  Otherwise grow in a large container and overwinter frost free.
