Basella rubra var Big Round Leaf
Large, mild-flavored big round green leaves. The mild flavor makes this malabar spinach equally good cooked or fresh, with a slight citrus or acidic flavor. The leaves are thick and can handle heat, but are similar to cooking with okra in terms of the thickness it creates when cooked (some say slimy) Heat-loving and vigorous, these attractive plants reach 6 feet or more, this variety is said to also grow with out trellising and produces larger leave (we are trialing this at our site this year in the greenhouse and outside in the garden). AKA: Red Stem Malabar, Vietnamese Spinach, Red Vine Spinach, Phooi Leaf, Indian Spinach, Alugbati, Ceylon Spinach.
