French variety, name translates to "Collar of the Lady in Black" referring to elegant elongated neck resembling fashionable high collars and jeweled necklaces of French royalty. Self-fertile common fig. Very hardy tree requiring lots of sun and longer growing season than most varieties. Performs well in containers.

Common self-fertile producing medium to large pear-shaped figs with characteristic thick elongated neck. Dark brown to nearly black skin, almost iridescent when ripe, with small cracks when fully ripe. Dark ruby-red to bright red flesh, exceptionally dense, thick, jammy consistency with clear delineation between meat and pulp when cut. Very complex rich fig flavor with medium sweetness and berry undertones, unique cherry-fig taste. Small seed crunch, no cavity, tight eye. Main crop only, no breba. Late ripening (late August-September in warm climates).

Variant spelling includes Spanish "Coll de Dama Negra" and Italian "Col di Signora Negra/Nero." Also known as "De la Pera Negra" and "Cuello de Dama Negra." Sold in South Africa as "King" or "Violet Silaz." Often fails to ripen in Pacific Northwest due to insufficient heat, better suited to warmer climates, greenhouse culture, or hot-summer regions.
