Excellent pollinizer for Bartlett. Self-sterile, requires another compatible pear variety nearby to pollinate and produce fruit. Suitable for grafting on quince rootstock. Listed by Thomas Lang and Co nurserymen as "Doyenne Griss" for sale on quince rootstocks in historical catalogs. Highly susceptible to fire blight.

Delicious dessert variety. Medium-sized fruit, globular in form like White Doyenne, rounded greenish-yellow fruit with pink blush. Skin smooth, deep gold in color, uniformly overlaid with fine 'cinnamon' russet, very attractive. White flesh, buttery, tender, extremely juicy. Ripens in autumn, among beautiful display of fresh green foliage that develops to yellow tones as autumn evolves. Attractive fruit due to golden russet coloration.

From Chartreux Monastery Paris mid-18th century. Russet mutation of famous White Doyenne. Extensively listed in historical nursery catalogs in France, Belgium, England, Germany, Australia under various synonyms. Featured in W.H. Ragan Nomenclature of the Pear 1908.
