Robust vigorous tree with somewhat spreading moderate vigor growth habit, precocious (bears early). Abundant heavy producer, bears earlier and heavier than most plum trees. Very cold hardy, excellent for northern gardens, hardy to -30°F or -34°F. Reaches 15-20 feet tall at maturity with equal spread. Low canopy with typical clearance of 4 feet from ground, suitable for planting under power lines. Grows at medium rate, under ideal conditions can live 40 years or more.

Large heart-shaped fire-red fruit with sweet juicy firm yellow flesh. Dark red to bright red skin, nearly round with somewhat pointed apex. Firm delicious fruit, dense clingstone. Best pollinized by South Dakota, Waneta, or Toka.

Developed for cold hardiness and flavor. Became popular variety for northern climates due to exceptional cold tolerance. One of recommended dessert plums from hybrid plum cultivar trials alongside Black Ice, both requiring significant management to maximize success and profitability but both having outstanding fresh market appeal.
