Winter hardy disease resistant deciduous flowering shrub, Chaenomeles japonica (also listed as C. speciosa). Fruits heavily. Very ornamental hardy bush, one of first to bloom in early spring. Low growing spreading shrub. Easy to grow, disease and pest resistant. Self-fertile but need 2 for pollination to maximize fruit production. Good hedge plant.

Abundant striking scarlet-red to orange-red flowers in early spring (begins flowering early March). Often repeat bloom again in late summer with an attractive quality of often repeating a bloom of red flowers. Large, attractive flowers. Large yellow aromatic fruit, high quality. Yellow-green fruit with pineapple/citrus flavor. Makes good preserves, juices, syrups, jellies. Deliciously fragrant lemon-like fruits good for jellies and syrups, high in vitamin C. Fruit ripens September/October. Flowering branches make attractive indoor bouquets. Reported yields approximately 30+ lbs fruit from mature shrubs.
