Very disease resistant, highly disease resistant, excellent disease resistance. According to University of Wisconsin appears to be fireblight resistant in trials (not lot of testing on heritage varieties, mileage may vary but chances good). Very vigorous and productive, heavy cropping tree. Very early bloomer (bloom category 1), one of first pears to ripen each season. Ripens very early, about 1 month before Bartlett, fully one month before most other European pear varieties. Not self-fertile, needs another variety nearby for cross-pollination.

Blooms April, very early bloom. Large to very large fruit, pyriform shape, attractive fruits, produces baskets full. Yellow skin with red blush, yellow with deep red blush, yellow blushed with red, pretty red blush when fully mature. Sweet juicy delicious flavorful flesh, buttery textured flesh, fine-textured buttery flesh, aromatic. Yellow flesh. Subacid and aromatic. Ripens very early, late July, early August, mid to late July.

From Bulgaria/former Yugoslavia. Introduced to US 1974. Featured in University of Wisconsin trials. Grew well on Oregon coast per grower reports.
