Pyramidal tree shape, naturally pyramid-shaped at maturity, modest height, spreading habit. Vigorous productive tree. Partially self-fertile, single tree will carry good crop, but needs pollinizer for heaviest crop, suitable second pollinating tree needed within 50 feet. Universal Pollinizer bloom category 2. Highly resistant to fire blight, extremely resistant, somewhat resistant to cedar trellis rust.

Blooms mid to late season. Medium to large fruit, long-necked tear-drop shape, classic teardrop shape, pale green skin sometimes blushed red, greenish-yellow skin turning golden yellow as ripens, can develop pretty blush in full sun. Smooth white flesh with no grit cells, buttery smooth grit-free texture, silky flesh, juicy and sweet, rich buttery flavor. Ripens mid-September in central Virginia, late season, mid to late summer harvest (late August/early September), August. Good keeper, very good keeping abilities, good storage. Praised by Alice Waters, Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey as most delicious pear in world. Quality rated equal to Magness by many.

Discovered 1976 in Hattiesburg Mississippi. Introduced commercially, became regional and national favorite. Truly best choice for Southern growers. Among very best backyard choices. Found at USDA test plot near T.O. Warren's home.
