Ya Li is an ancient Chinese heirloom cultivar, originated 1800s China. Vigorous upright tree, white spring blooms, and burgundy-red fall foliage. Early blooming.

Large pear-shaped (pyriform) fruit, smooth greenish-yellow skin turning waxy yellow when ripe. Crisp, juicy, tender white flesh with sweet-tart flavor, hint of anise and spice, fragrant aroma. Harvest September. Stores well (February). Slow to bear. Requires cross-pollination with Tsu Li or Seuri.

The name means "duck pear" (ya=duck, li=pear) referencing mallard-like shape. Also called Singing Bird or Chinese White Pear. Most important pear cultivar in China, accounts for 34% of China's pear exports. Fire blight resistant.
