Strikingly beautiful scarlet-red blooms in late-summer through the fall and winter are a great late season food for hummingbirds and butterflies, hence its other name of Hummingbird sage. We love to watch hummingbirds feed on it in the cold days of winter when nothing else is available. Native to Mexico it's hardy to about 30 degrees, but with mulching around the crowns can come back from colder temperatures. Also popularly grown in pots and greenhouses. Besides it's terrific value as an ornamental and nectar source, it 's citrus mint flavored blossoms and sweet pineapple fragrant leaves are also used as a tea and spice. Hardy zones 8B-10. Our Pineapple Sage is grown in 4x6" pots.
