Spreading habit, moderate vigor. Prefers warm sheltered sites, protected location in cooler climates. Does not crop well in all areas. Lower chill than many varieties, reliable tree for both northern and southern growers. Somewhat self-fertile in some locations, partially self-fertile but benefits from pollinator. Bloom category 3. Pollinated by Conference, Doyenne du Comice, Fondante d'Automne, Glou Morceau, Josephine de Malines, Louise Bonne of Jersey, Moonglow, Winter Nelis.

Late bloom, stunning. Medium-sized roundish fruit, round conical shape. Mid-green turning yellow with patches of light brown russet, yellow skin, slightly rough skin. Smooth melting texture, intensely aromatic flavor, sweet buttery spicy dessert-quality. Creamy yellow melting flesh, pale yellow fine melting flesh, delicious scented flavor with some lemony acidity. Will not keep for a long time, bring into warmth of house to finish ripening through October.

Raised in France 1837 by M. Goubault at Mille Pieds near Angers. Introduced to England, widely considered one of best for flavor. Traditional French 19th century pear. Called "Superfin" reflecting combination of superlatives "super" and "finest". In book The Fruit Trees of France, only pear rated as Excellent.
