Developed by Arlen Draper at USDA in Beltsville, Maryland, in collaboration with New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. Released in 1987 after 10 years of testing. Named after S. Arthur "Duke" Galletta of Atlantic Blueberry Company. Early-ripening variety with late bloom time (avoiding frost). Vigorous, upright bushes.

Medium to large, light blue, very firm berries with crisp texture. Tangy-sweet, delicate "classic blueberry" flavor that improves with cold storage. Small dry picking scar, excellent shipping quality.

Released 1987, Duke became the leading early-ripening Northern Highbush variety worldwide. Received Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Exceptionally reliable producer with high yields (15-20 lbs per plant). Suitable for mechanical harvest and both fresh and processing markets.
