Here is  perennial chard option that will live for 2-3+ years we got from Cicada Seeds "This population was developed by Telsing Andrews in Ottawa. She started with an open cross of several leaf-beet accessions known to be somewhat perennial."  The chard usually wont flower in the 1st year, the 2nd year it will flower and the flower are said to smell like chocolate.  Cut the flowering stalks off and the chard/beetleaf will sprout from the base more greens. The root is also edible when young and will reseed if left to flower.
