Lombardy Poplar

The classic tall narrow crowned poplar of the Mediterranean makes a striking accent tree and is widely used for windbreaks. Originating in Lombardy, northern Italy in the 17th century it is well adapted to hot dry conditions. Can be poor in humid areas where it can be short-lived. This very fast growing columnar tree can grow 40-70 feet tall and has shiny green leaves that turn a beautiful clear gold in the fall. Very hardy and is good in dry cold interior climates. Hardy zones 3-9.
