Sibuyas Tagalog Perennial Bunching Onion (Lasona)

A. cepa aggregatum group. This is the tropical cousin of the I'Itoi Bunching Onion though it has a larger bulb and deeper purple hue. They come from the Philippines and are used as a staple flavoring both as a green onion and a shallot like onion bulb.  These perennial bunching onions can grow in hot and humid conditions, which makes them unique and they show more cold tolerance and larger bulbs than the Akakai Onion.  They often will go dormant during the hottest summer months and then produce the rest of the year.  Can be used a bunching green onion or dug up and used as a small onion or shallot. In our trials this was easiest, largest, and most productive of all our perennial bunching onions. The trial was in Yolo County, Ca and we are continuing to test them in Oakland, Ca.
