Requires full sun (at least 6 hours direct sunlight daily) and well-draining acidic soil with pH between 4.5 and 5.5. Self-incompatible, requiring cross-pollination from 2-3 different rabbiteye varieties for adequate fruit set. Requires sufficient bee activity for pollination. Best planted in spring or fall when temperatures are cooler. Rabbiteye type adapted to heat and drought tolerance typical of southeastern US native blueberries.

Attractive bright blue berries. Mildly sweet with notably high acid content, making them particularly well-suited for baking and preserving applications rather than fresh eating. Extended harvest season lasting 4-5 weeks, longer than many rabbiteye varieties which typically ripen over 2-3 weeks. Early ripening for a rabbiteye type. Berry size, firmness, and stem scar characteristics not documented in available sources. Good producer with reliable yields over the extended ripening period.

Rabbiteye blueberry breeding in the southeastern US began in earnest in the 1940s-1950s with early selections often lacking the detailed pedigree records maintained for more recent releases. Early rabbiteye cultivars were frequently selected from native populations or early breeding trials without the patent protection and formal release processes common after the 1970s. The variety name 'Prolific' likely refers to its productive nature and extended harvest season.
