Crataegus opaca cultivar, one of the improved mayhaw selections. Small deciduous tree reaching 30 feet. Tolerates wide variety of moisture, drainage, and light conditions. Prefers slightly acidic, moist soils in sun to part shade. Much larger fruit than common native mayhaw species. Major commercial cultivar, especially evaluated for juice extraction quality.

Larger fruit than wild mayhaws, typically 1-2.5 cm diameter. Sweet-tart flavor profile. Highly prized for making classic mayhaw jelly. Fructose and glucose are major sugars; malic acid is principal nonvolatile acid. Used fresh or processed into jellies, syrups, and preserves. Ripens mid-season.

One of several improved mayhaw cultivars developed in the late 20th century. Part of Billy Craft's and other breeders' work improving mayhaw fruit size and quality. Used extensively for juice extraction research at Louisiana State University (1998-1999 studies). Popular in commercial cultivation alongside Super Spur, Royalty, and Spectacular. Double G cultivar is a cross between Texas Star and Royal Star. Native mayhaw range Missouri to East Coast, Michigan to Florida, typically growing along waterways.
