This is an ancient Chinese heirloom from Tse County, Shandong Province. Vigorous upright tree that is early blooming and very showy.

Large pear-shaped (football-shaped) fruit with elongated neck, up to 2 lbs. Light green to golden-yellow skin with prominent lenticels, develops greasy feel when ripe. Crisp, juicy, sweet white flesh with trace of tartness, subtle floral taste, pineapple aroma. Ripens early-mid September. Exceptional storage (6-10 months), taste and texture improve with storage. Cross-pollinates with Ya Li.

Cultivated in China for thousands of years. Famous Shandong pear favored for crisp texture and storage. California strain shows more vigor and productivity than Chinese. Fire blight resistant but low productivity and slow growth rate. Used as early-blooming pollinator for Ya Li.
