Lotus Persimmon, Caucasian Persimmon, Lilac Persimmon, False Lote tree
Date-plum aka Lotus Persimmon, Caucasian Persimmon, Lilac Persimmon, False Lote tree (Diospyros lotus) is the most common rootstock used for Oriental persimmons in this country. Its abundant small fruit is eaten fresh or made into jelly when fully ripe. Beautiful upright tree has luxuriant dark green foliage that turns golden in the fall. Dioecious with male and female flowers on separate plants, so you need a female and male to get fruit. We sell unsexed seedlings, so planting at least 3 is a good idea if you want fruit. Native to subtropical areas of southwest Asia and southeast Europe. Hardy zone 5-9.
