I found out about Planting Justice thru a friend, and was so excited to find out about a career opportunity that allowed me to work with plants. I love playing in the dirt and I’ve always been in the garden, since I was a kid. My grandmother was a gardener, and I come from a long line of farmers. I guess it’s just in my blood.
I believe in food sovereignty and equal opportunity for all, formerly incarcerated or not. But there’s so much discrimination against formerly incarcerated folks, and often it's a little hidden and subtle, so folks can pretend they aren't doing it, but it is so obvious and real. And so I really believe in what Planting Justice represents.
I have seen myself in the best, best headspace in my life. I’m not drinking no more. I’m eating healthier. It took me to come here, to be here, to really learn to love myself again.
