Nursery Technician at the Planting Justice East Oakland Sobrante Park Nursery, where she’s been part of the team since 2024. Growing up in the neighborhood, with a grandmother who grew fruit trees in her yard, she knows how powerful community and plants can be. Michele loves seeing how fresh food and greenery bring people together and is excited to be part of healthy change in her neighborhood. She’s seen the impact up close—her daughter has interned at Planting Justice, showing how the work helps youth grow. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and spending time with family, and being part of the nursery allows her to help the community grow, one plant and one opportunity at a time.
I have seen myself in the best, best headspace in my life. I’m not drinking no more. I’m eating healthier. It took me to come here, to be here, to really learn to love myself again.
Otis Spikes, Nursery Manager Planting Justice since 2016
